'Tis the Season...For Wedding Shopping!

Carol Corbett

That’s right, the holiday season is an opportune time to shop for
your wedding. With sales galore you can’t help but find bargains on
everything from candles to cummerbunds. It may sound a little odd, but
the holidays provide just the sales to help you save a ton on your
wedding…especially if you’re a little crafty and can think outside the
box. As you look around the mall you may not think there’s much that’s
wedding appropriate this time of year. Look again.

Discounts at Craft Stores Before the holidays you’ll be able to
find great discounts at craft stores like Michaels, Jo-Anne Fabrics,
Ben Franklin Crafts, and others. If you or someone close knows how to
sew, you can save hundreds of dollars by making your flower girls’ or
even bride’s maids’ dresses. Save even more by getting the fabric on
sale. Look in the obvious places for great savings on your gown, veil
or the groom’s tux. Mothers can save a bundle by taking advantage of
department store sales on party dresses. Make it a group trip and find
purses to give as gifts for your girls. Go to Staples or Office Max to
find deals on blank cds to burn as favors, DIY invitations, and
envelopes (remember you’ll need them for invites and thank yous).
Bigger ticket items are a bargain too, think camcorder to capture the
memories, digital camera-ready printer so guests can print their
candids, and memory cards to hold your honeymoon shots. Stop in to
engraving stores like Things Remembered to pick up great gifts for the
groomsmen and custom albums for the parents. Frames are on sale all
over, pick up a bunch to use after the wedding for prints.

Think Candles, Ribbon, Chargers, and More And after the
holidays, well that’s when the discounts go deep…way deep. Especially
on supposed holiday-specific items like Hanukkah-blue ribbon,
spruce-green cloth napkins, silver bells, and poinsettia-red table
clothes. Silver and Gold candles, chargers, and ribbon are all over the
place. Fill frosted vases with blue and white rocks to hold bouquets.
Find mirrors for centerpieces, mini frames for table numbers or favors,
the possibilities are endless and so are the sales. You can scope out
these items early and return to reap your savings bonus. Even seemingly
unrelated items, like white candles, can turn up at insane prices. Use
your head and deals on garland could save a bundle in decorating the
hall. DIY chocolates can be adorable custom favors, white gossamer is
perfect to wrap them in, tie with a silver ribbon and you’re set. Of
course, a lot depends on your colors and style preference, but a keen
eye will help you keep a clean budget and allow more funds for other
things like the cake or DJ.
